“The Future Sound of Slovakia vol. 1” is a sonic journey through the folk songbook of various regions of Slovakia, reinterpreted with a unique perspective. The project emerged in 2021 during the pandemic, giving life to a demo album created entirely with virtual instruments. Four years later, this work evolves into deeper versions, exploring genres such as no wave, electro-rock, indie dance, and downtempo.
The voices of Petřa Valentová, Dominika Vitková, and Alica Heregová (members of the national ballet Lúčnica) intertwine with the contributions of other musicians of Slovak, Argentine, Peruvian, French, English, Romanian, Japan, and New Zealand origin. An intergenerational dream team that includes Abello Cepero Travaglini (ukulele), Andrei Mărginean (soundscapes), Andrew Gibson (electric guitar), Benito Malacalza (ronroco, Andean flutes, tarka, sikus), Daniel Inger (accordion), Germán Estrella (fretless bass), Igor Babiak (balafon), Jakub Pišek (digital ozembuch), Kate Farquhar (trumpet), Katka Lahová (backing vocals), Matthias Moreno (drums and Moog), Miloš Kondač (guitar), Yutaka Ban (fujara) and Cristian Estrella (keyboards, percussion, acoustic guitar, virtual instruments, and programming).
The album was recorded in multiple locations: in Slovakia, at Sonic Cat Studios (Bratislava), Dragons Cavorting (Banská Štiavnica), La Casa Tomada (Nová Baňa), Záhrada Kulturne Centrum (Banská Bystrica), and Periférne Centrá (Dúbravica); in Argentina, at El Templito Records (Cordillera de los Andes, Mendoza), Estudio Libres (Caballito, Buenos Aires), and For Export (Lanús, Buenos Aires); in France, at Live Again (Montpellier) and No Idea (Montmorillon); in the Netherlands, at Mystical Pacha (Amsterdam); and in Catalonia, at M’Ouse (Barcelona).
The mixing was handled by Andrés Oddone (known for his work with Chancha Vía Circuito, Tremor, and Frikstailers, among others) at Bugambilia Studio (Mexico). The mastering was done by Manuel Schaller (Mad Professor, Sexteto Irreal, Axel Krygier, among others) at Oídos Contentos (Buenos Aires).
